facebook in chinaThere are basically two ways to use Facebook in China. Because it is blocked by the Chinese government, you've got to have an IP changing tool.  Your Chinese IP is what's getting you blocked, and by changing your IP address, you'll be able to use Facebook in China on your iPhone, Mac, or Windows PC.

Actually there's a lot more devices that you can use Facebook in China on, it's just that those are the main one's.  Linux, Android phones and computers, iPad, Internet TV's – they can all do it.

So one of your two choices to use Facebook in China is this:

Web Based Proxy

For the longest time I wouldn't use these because I though they were inconvenient.  You've got to type your URL into the a special secure browser window.  This isn't the worst thing in the world, but if you're not used to it, it can be annoying when you accidentally use your regular browser window, get blocked, and then have to start your secure browsing again.

There are some serious advantages to using a web based proxy as opposed to other ways to use Facebook in China.

The number one advantage is that you can use it on mobile devices.

Unlike virtual private networks (which I'll tell you about below), web based proxies work on just about all devices in China. iPhone, iPad, and Android phones/tablets are extremely popular these days. I don't have to tell you.  But to use a VPN on them, you need PPTP or L2TP, which is blocked in China. That means if you own one of these and want to use Facebook in China on it, your ONLY choice is a web based proxy.

Of the hundreds of blocked services, one of the FASTEST, and conveniently NOT BLOCKED services is Securitales.

Before I start talking about virtual private networks, one more advantage of web based proxies is that you can use the on computers that you don't own. I mean school and work computers. You've got to install the VPN, and you usually only get one install per purchase, so using it on multiple computers isn't very practical, or possible.

BUT

mac windows linuxVirtual private networks are still great.

The main advantage here is that they secure your whole device. While a proxy only secures your browser, a VPN will change the IP and protect the connection of any software, devices, and operations your running on  your computer.

And VPNs provide more that being able to use Facebook in China.  In addition to accessing blocked sites, they hide your IP address, they encrypt your data, and tunnel the information you send and receive on your computer. This means that you'll be hidden from Big Brother as well as protected from hackers and other online predators.

VPNs have experience the same problems that proxies have.  Many VPN services have had their websites blocked in China recently.  This, of course, doesn't affect the VPN service itself, but it does make signing up difficult.

VPN services are on the ball however, and they frequently put out secure links that have yet to be blocked.  The VPN service I use, and one of the fastest I've tried (as well as inexpensive) is 12VPN.
